Snk fighting games3/25/2023 ![]() ![]() If I go with my heart where the nostalgia weighs heavy I would say Capcom It was 94 and I was 17years young hanging out at the Landmark Lanes Arcade, 3Bars of which I had many great nights of drinking in my early 20's and a old school 60's bowling alley and nice size arcade which had a weird smell that you came to accept as part of the ambiance, all of this located in what is basically the basement to a historic movie theater known as The Oriental anyone from Milwaukee or more specifically the East Side near the Lake knows of these hollow sacred grounds for legendary battles of 2d button crunching. I can respond to this two ways, and I'm not trying to stay on the fence with this, but. SNK had some amazing programmers.Ĭapcom has great fighters, just not as many as SNK which is why I chose SNK, but Capcom has my favorite fighter nailed down. To see all those games running on MVS hardware is something special, it amazes me everytime I boot up 2003 on my 4 slot that 10 year old hardware was able to look and play as good as it did. Capcom were better, SVC is still a very good game. But pound for pound, SNK made better 2d fighters, there are 5 Samurai Showdowns, 2 Last Blades, 3 Art of Fighters, what 10 KOF's when you count in KOFXI, the Fatal Fury series and the Real bout series, Garou:MOTW, SVC Chaos, though Capcoms SNK VS. Capcom is and probably will always be my favorite 2d fighter. Come on, 3 man teams was unheard of in 1994 and SNK did it! I loved SFAII, didn't care for SFAIII, but it's still a well done fighter. SFA is a great series, but it's still no KOF. Vampire Savior is fantastic, but it's no KOF 97,98,2002,2003. I guess it's easy for me to compare when I own two Neo-geos and almost every SF game but the alpha series, only had SFA 2 for Saturn(which was fantastic), and even some imports. I spent a lot of time with the SF's as a kid.too bad really, had I know about Neo-geo's back then, I would never have gone back to SFII. Sidescrollers on the other hand, as much as i love Megaman, Ghosts and Goblins etc etc, Metal Slug alone wins that vote for SNK playmore. I don't wish to turn this topic hostile, but calling Street Fighter a button masher is an insult to anyone who has ever played a fighting game. The only game to receive lots of tournament play in the past few years with anything SNK in it was CvS2, but roll cancelling completely broke that. ![]() I only see 'button mashers' like SFA3, SFII or SF3:3rd Strike in the 2d catagory (The only 3d fighter worth playing is Soul Calibur) I don't see many of SNK's fighters in high level tournament play lately. Many SF games have features like this, such as pushblocks, alpha cancels, kara throws, super cancels etc etc. Capcom has what, Street fighter and Darkstalkers.Īnd you say ive never played a KoF game.Īlso, Capcom have a large amount of other fighters, but this is negligable as most of them were never released outside of Japan, a few of them were though, but are hard to find nowadays such as JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and it's sequel.Īs for "guard cancels, DMs, SDMs" again i reiterate my above point. Capcom, but pound for pound between all the games SNK has done and Capcom has done, from Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Art of fighting, all KOF's, don't forget Garou Mark of the Wolves, Samurai Showdown Series, Last Blade 1 and 2, SNK is the easy winner. ![]() SF is a straight up button masher while KOF you have guard cancels, DMs, SDMs, in the case of 03, Leader SDM's, team battle, in 2003, tag battle.Ĭapcom did make my favorite fighter, Marvel vs. If you say SF has more depth than KOF, then I doubt you've ever played a KOF game. In the 2d realm there is no comparison, the KOF series destroys the SF series hands down in not only gameplay and graphics but story as well. Ok, if you are going to make an arguement here, it should be limited to 2d fighters since the only arcade games SNK produced were 2d except for a couple Hyper Neo 64 titles that I doubt anybody here as even seen let alone played. With the exception of Soul Calibur, which is arguable one of the best fighters ever. SNK's games are good, but they just don't have the depth of Capcom's fighters.Īs for the rest, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, DOA, garbage all of them.
